Saying Goodbye to Invasive Sinus Lifts: The Versah® Way to Dental Implants

When you lose a tooth in the upper jaw—especially toward the back—your jawbone naturally begins to shrink over time. To make matters trickier, the maxillary sinus (the air-filled space above your upper teeth) can actually expand downward as you age.

When it comes time to replace that missing tooth with a dental implant, we often find that there simply isn’t enough solid bone left to support it.

Traditionally, fixing this meant undergoing a "sinus lift"—a surgical procedure where a specialist creates an opening in the side of the jaw to manually elevate the delicate sinus membrane and pack in bone graft material. While highly successful, traditional sinus lifts can mean significant swelling, a longer recovery time, and a separate healing period before you can actually get your implant.

Fortunately, dental technology has evolved. At our practice, we utilize a revolutionary, minimally invasive alternative: The Versah® Internal Sinus Lift.

What is a Versah Internal Sinus Lift?

The Versah system uses a patented technique called Osseodensification. Instead of using standard dental drills that cut away and remove valuable bone, we use specially engineered Densah® Burs that run smoothly in reverse.

As these gently vibrating, high-tech tools glide into the bone, they don't excavate it. Instead, they gently push your natural bone outward and upward, compressing and condensing it against the walls of the socket.

When we reach the very top of the bone—just beneath the sinus—the cushion of condensed, hydrated bone gently and safely lifts the flexible sinus membrane up from the inside.

Why This Matters for You: The Major Benefits

By switching from a traditional, aggressive surgical lift to the Versah internal protocol, our patients experience a completely transformed treatment process:

  • Minimally Invasive: We access the sinus directly through the tiny channel where the dental implant will sit. There is no need to make large surgical openings in the side of your jaw.

  • Faster, Single-Stage Healing: Because the Densah burs compress and strengthen your existing bone rather than drilling it away, the implant site becomes incredibly stable right away. This often allows us to place your dental implant the exact same day as the lift, cutting your overall treatment time in half.

  • Using Your Own Bone: The system acts like a built-in autografting tool. It naturally cushions the sinus lift using your own bone tissue, which your body recognizes and heals with beautifully.

  • Significantly Less Discomfort: No aggressive chiseling or scraping means less post-operative swelling, less bruising, and a much faster, more comfortable recovery.

  • Maximum Safety: The reverse-rotating burs are highly advanced; they are designed to easily prepare hard bone but glide smoothly against soft tissues, vastly reducing the risk of a sinus membrane tear compared to older techniques.

What to Expect During the Procedure

The entire process is streamlined to keep you completely comfortable:

  1. 3D Digital Imaging: We start by taking an advanced 3D CBCT scan of your jaw. This allows us to measure your exact bone depth down to the millimeter and map out the safest path to the sinus floor.

  2. Gentle Preparation: After ensuring the area is completely numb, the specialized Densah burs are introduced in full, gentle steps. You will feel a light, vibrating pressure, but no pain.

  3. The Hydro-Lift: Using a gentle, modulating pumping motion with sterile hydration, the bone fluidly lifts the sinus membrane to the exact height needed.

  4. Implant Placement: If the site is a candidate for immediate placement, the titanium dental implant is gently securely anchored into the newly densified, high-density bone matrix.

Are You a Candidate?

If you have been told in the past that you don't have enough bone for dental implants, or that you require a lengthy sinus graft surgery before you can even begin, the Versah internal sinus lift may be the perfect, modern shortcut for your smile.
